How to install a Tools4Win dashboard in MetaTrader 4

Install the analytical dashboards listed on this site in MetaTrader 4 using the terminal data folder.

Step by step

  1. Download and unzip. Read the included readme. The current archives contain an .ex4 file; screenshots are optional reference material.
  2. Open the data folder. In MT4 choose File → Open Data Folder. This identifies the folder for that terminal installation.
  3. Copy the Expert Advisor. Copy the file from the archive's Experts folder into MQL4\Experts. If a package declares other required files, copy them to the locations specified in its readme.
  4. Refresh the list. In Navigator, right-click Expert Advisors and choose Refresh, or restart MT4.
  5. Attach to a chart. Drag the dashboard onto a chart and review its Inputs. In Turtle period-column mode, the chart timeframe determines the calculation timeframe.
  6. Keep trading permissions off for analysis. These analytical dashboards do not need Allow live trading or the AutoTrading button enabled to calculate values or respond to chart clicks. Confirm with OK.

Symbols and history

Connect MT4 to your broker and check Market Watch for the symbols you need. Broker suffixes and extra-symbol names must match the dashboard settings. A dashboard cannot display an instrument your broker does not provide.

Open charts for the required symbols and timeframes and allow MT4 to download history. ADR-based values also need daily bars; Dynamic Momentum uses M1 and, for longer intervals, H1 history. Incomplete history can cause missing or misleading values. Refresh after the data has loaded.

Optional chart templates

The Template for new window setting can apply your own .tpl file when you open a chart from a dashboard value. Put it in the data folder's templates directory. Templates and any indicators they reference are separate from the current downloads. Use an installed template or leave the template setting empty.

Nothing shows up?

  • Check that the .ex4 file is in MQL4\Experts for this terminal, not in MQL4\Indicators.
  • Review the Experts and Journal tabs for loading, symbol or history errors.
  • A disabled trading icon indicates trading permission, not whether analytical calculations or chart clicks work.

Changing the settings

Right-click the chart and choose Expert Advisors → Properties → Inputs. Read the product page for its calculation and the common parameters for display settings.
